LBTU Malnava College, together with an international consortium of partners, has launched the Erasmus+ programme project Centres of Agricultural AI Vocational Excellence to Empower Agricultural Sector to Simplify AI Adoption (CAAIVE), which aims to strengthen digital and artificial intelligence skills in the agricultural sector by promoting the adoption of innovation, sustainable development, and cooperation on a European scale.

The main objective of the CAAIVE project is to establish and develop an international network of centres of professional excellence in agricultural artificial intelligence, bringing together vocational education institutions, universities, industry organizations, policymakers, and businesses. The project aims to establish four regional CAAIVE centres in Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, and Latvia (at LBTU Malnava College) to promote knowledge transfer, skills development, and the implementation of new solutions in agriculture.

The project activities are structured into several interrelated areas. The project will assess and strengthen digital skills in agriculture by developing a digital skills profile and a digital self-assessment tool for farmers. Digital Agricultural Skills Ecosystems (DASE) will be developed by creating regional action plans and ensuring participation in the Pact for Skills.

The CAAIVE project places a strong emphasis on the development and implementation of educational content, with a focus on establishing a micro-qualification system and developing modular “plug-in” courses in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), Agriculture 4.0, the green transition, and entrepreneurship. The project places special emphasis on the adoption of low-code and no-code artificial intelligence solutions, making digital innovations accessible to a wider range of stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

As part of the project, the CAAIVE educational framework will be activated through the implementation of peer-to-peer workshops, workplace-based learning, mobility activities for students, instructors, and farmers, as well as hackathons and other innovation events. Based on practical experience, the project will also develop policy recommendations for the development of digital skills in the agricultural sector.

The CAAIVE project places special emphasis on the dissemination and sustainability of results, including the development of the #CAAIVE_Peer2Peer platform, the organization of the international conference AI Excellence in Agriculture, and the integration of project results into partners’ education systems and industry practices.

LBTU Malnava College participates in the CAAIVE project as one of the partners contributing to the establishment of the Latvian regional CAAIVE centre and the application of project results in vocational education in close cooperation with the agricultural sector and regional partners.
