The permanent exhibition at the Cultural History Centre Līču Mājas takes visitors through the most significant milestones in the history of Kārsava and its surroundings. Archaeology, the development of manors, the impact of railway construction, market traditions, and the thriving pre-war town—these are some of the stops that will help visitors better understand what Kārsava is and who the people of this place are.

The only place in Latvia where two churches stand side by side. The wooden church was built in 1741 and features several decorative art monuments. Next to it stands the new church, whose interior was crafted by students of the Riga Secondary School of Crafts.

The Kārsava Evangelical Lutheran congregation was founded in 1920, but during World War II, the church was destroyed and converted into a cinema. Thanks to the congregation’s efforts, the church is slowly regaining its historic appearance.

In 1860, during the construction of the St. Petersburg–Warsaw railway line—a strategically important route for the Russian Empire—the Kārsava railway station was established. A village grew up around it, and to this day, several buildings with unique architecture—unseen elsewhere in Latvia—have been preserved there.
