On 2 and 3 December 2025, Dr. Ilke Karakaş, an experienced lecturer from Çanakkale Vocational School of Health Services, Pharmacy services programme, at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in Turkey, visited LBTU Malnava College to deliver valuable guest lectures on the use of medicinal plants in agriculture.

Mrs. Karakaş shared her knowledge of medicinal plants, their specific growing characteristics, cultivation, processing, storage, and use, and introduced the wide range of application possibilities in agriculture, giving many examples from successful business stories. The sessions were attended by students from the short-cycle higher education study programmes Crop Production and Entrepreneurship of Agriculture though they were available to anyone interested.

The guest lecturer’s classes were designed as both a theoretical and practical process. In the practical part, students had the opportunity to learn about the medicinal properties of various plants, taste and smell them, and make their own natural medicinal cream by adding their favourite essential oils.

Students gained an exciting experience working with medicinal plants, which adds significant value to their knowledge and opens up ever-broader opportunities for their future careers.

In addition to knowledge about medicinal plants, Mrs. Karakaş had also prepared a heartfelt surprise—authentic aromatic Turkish coffee and delicious sweets—introducing the students to her country’s traditions of hospitality.

Malnava College is grateful for this exchange of experiences and looks forward to valuable and productive cooperation in the future!
