Internal Audit of the Quality Management System at LBTU Malnava College
On 20 and 2 1November 2025, an internal audit was conducted within the framework of the project No. 5.2.1.1.i.0/2/24/I/CFLA/002 Strengthening LBTU’s Institutional Capacity for Excellence in Studies and Research, with the aim of assessing the compliance of the LBTU Malnava College Quality Management System with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, in order to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
The development of a quality management system (QMS) is one of the activities of this project, and, following the results of the procurement process, a contract was signed with SMArt L. The project’s objective is to implement structural changes at LBTU to promote excellence, the quality of higher education and science, the efficiency of resource allocation, and international competitiveness.
The heads of structural units and other employees of LBTU Malnava College were involved in the development of the QMS, covering all essential processes: management, academic, and support processes, including infrastructure, production and material-technical departments, the IT department, as well as human resources management, document management, communication with stakeholders, etc.
Ilze Eglīte, a business management consultant and lead auditor at IRCA (International Register of Certified Auditors), met with all participating employees to review and evaluate the relevant QMS processes.
The audit report is positive. It lists several examples of best practices and opportunities for process improvement, pointing out only one non-compliance that can be rectified. At the conclusion of the audit, gratitude was expressed to both parties—the college staff and SMArt L—for their patience, perseverance, and cooperation; however, work on the implementation of the QMS continues.
This activity is taking place within the framework of the project No. 5.2.1.1.i.0/2/24/I/CFLA/002 Strengthening LBTU’s Institutional Capacity for Excellence in Studies and Research. The project’s goal is to implement structural changes at LBTU to promote excellence, the quality of higher education and science, the efficiency of resource allocation, and international competitiveness.
